System Change not Climate Change Colloquium
Join us at the Isivivana Centre on Thursday the 26th for practical inputs on resisting the climate crisis. System Change not Climate Change is part of the African Climate Alliance’s week of positive climate action. Tea and lunch will be provided.
Speakers
Saliem Fakir: Saliem Fakir is Head of WWF’s Policy and Futures Unit. He joined WWF in February 2009. The Unit’s work is focused on identifying ways to manage a transition to a low-carbon economy. He was previously (2007-2008) a senior lecturer at the Department of Public Administration and Planning and associate Director for the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy at the University of Stellenbosch where he taught on renewable energy policy and financing of renewable energy projects.
Sandra van Niekerk: Sandra van Niekerk is currently working on the energy democracy/climate change programme at AIDC after becoming involved in the One Million Climate Jobs Campaign in 2013. She has a long history in the labour movement, working for much of that time in the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU).
Lisakhanya Mathiso and Lihle Booi*: Are climate activists in Grades 11 & 10 at the Centre of Science and Technology (COSAT) in Khayelitsha. They are both on the Elected Council of the youth wing of the African Climate Alliance. They are also YouLead Warriors with Project 90 by 2030.
*Lisakhanya and Lihle have replaced Zukhanye and Aphelele.
