AIDC together with Amadiba Crisis Committee and the Southern Africa Green Revolutionary Council are hosting an exciting webinar to discuss the power-shifting Shell judgement and the impacts of the judgement for the Right to Say No. For communities that are resisting extractivism, their rights to consent and to be consulted meaningfully is bolstered in law. It is significant that the High Court recognised struggles and resistances on the ground as well as the impacts that oil and gas exploration in our oceans can have on livelihoods, the environment and climate change.
On Thursday, we will chat about how communities came together to approach the High Court for relief, what the judgement said and the far-reaching impacts for communities and people resisting extractivism in conversation with Wilmien Wicomb, attorney at the Legal Resources Centre, Nonhle Mbuthuma, spokesperson of the Amadiba Crisis Committee and Matthews Hlabane, national organiser for the Right to Say No and founder of the Southern Africa Green Revolutionary Council.
Date: Thursday, 8 September
