Building Power From Below: Activists Unite to Defend the Right to Say No!

Today, we concluded an insightful two-day annual #RightToSayNo workshop, attended by over 50 activists representing mining-affected communities from various regions across the country. The main objectives of the workshop were to contextualise the local struggles faced by these communities within the broader framework of the global extractivist system.

Through a series of presentations, discussions, and collaborative activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of the challenges posed by mining operations and other extractive industries.

Additionally, the workshop aimed to develop a collective understanding of a proposed model law that supports communities’ right to refuse unwanted mining projects. This model law is a crucial tool for empowering communities to advocate for their rights and make informed decisions regarding their land and resources.

Overall, the workshop fostered a spirit of solidarity and shared purpose among activists committed to promoting community rights and environmental justice. It was organised by the AIDC, Amadiba Crisis CommitteeSAGRCTCOE and WOMINContact us on 021 447 5770 for more information about the #RightToSayNo Campaign.
