The Alternative Information and Development Centre (AIDC) has released its 2025 Annual Report, emphasising the urgent need to strengthen grassroots counterpower in today’s socio-political landscape. The report highlights AIDC’s collaborative efforts with various stakeholders, including community organisations, trade unions, and social movements, all dedicated to developing viable alternatives to the current neoliberal system.
This initiative is particularly significant in the present context, where movements advocating for the rights and needs of the working class and marginalised populations face challenges that may weaken them more than ever since the beginning of formal democracy. These circumstances underscore the importance of solidarity and innovation in grassroots efforts to foster change and empowerment within communities.
The report outlines specific strategies, case studies, and testimonials that illustrate the impactful work being done on the ground. It serves as both a call to action and a roadmap for activists and advocates seeking to navigate the complex landscape of contemporary socio-economic challenges.
As we mark our 30th anniversary in 2026, AIDC remains committed to building a democratic counterpower capable of confronting austerity, extractivism, and inequality. Our task is not only to resist injustice but also to create credible, people-centred alternatives, ensuring that the transition is not imposed from above but shaped collectively and fairly from below.
