The South African Tax Justice Working Group invites you to join a seminar series on exploring taxation not as a technical economic issue, but as a fundamental question of democracy, accountability, and power.
If your organisation is fighting for jobs, food, housing, healthcare, or education, and you’ve ever been asked, “πͺπ΅π²πΏπ² πΆπ ππ΅π² πΊπΌπ»π²π π΄πΌπΆπ»π΄ ππΌ π°πΌπΊπ² π³πΏπΌπΊ?” this series is for you.
South Africa faces a crisis of democratic legitimacy. While 12 million people are unemployed and around 15 million lack enough food daily, the richest 10% own over 86% of all wealth. Yet our government has consistently rejected progressive tax measures that could fund social provision and reduce inequalityβwhile cutting Corporate Income Tax and proposing regressive increases to VAT.
This is not a technical failure. It is a democratic failure.
