DESCRIPTION:The South African Tax Justice Working Group invites you to the second seminar in our series exploring taxation not simply as a technical economic issue\, but as a fundamental question of democracy\, accountability\, and power.  \nSouth Africa faces deep inequality and a crisis of democratic legitimacy. 12 million people are unemployed and around 15 million lack enough food daily\, while the richest 10% own over 86% of all wealth. At the same time\, progressive tax measures that could strengthen public services and reduce inequality have repeatedly been rejected\, while regressive measures such as increases in VAT have been pursued.  \nThis is not simply a technical failure.
