In terms of the agreement, the company is supposed to pay workers four months backpay as well as an end-of-year bonus. To date, this has not been paid out to workers.
“The company is clearly trying to provoke workers towards another industrial action which will again cause suffering and hardships,” say CSAAWU spokesperson Karel Swart.
Workers at Robertson Winery went on strike in August last year to demand a R8 500 living wage. After three months the strike was called off when workers accepted management’s offer of a R400 wage increase.
On December 15, workers downed tools for a few hours to demand a meeting with management over the implementation of the agreement they had signed. However, as a result of the work stoppage, up to 127 workers are now facing disciplinary action.
